Carpinet’s Next Pre-trial Conference Set For Early August

Another pre-trial conference has been set for Herndon woman Machaela Carpinet — who stands accused in the accidental death of Roaring Springs man and 79-year-old John Brandon.

During Wednesday’s session of Trigg County Circuit Court, Carpinet’s public defender, Mike Crider, said there had already been a very successful pretrial conference, and he needed one more to set affairs in order.

Carpinet is charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, no registration plates, no Kentucky registration receipt, no driver’s license, failure to maintain required insurance, manslaughter second degree, failure to wear a seatbelt, failure to notify change of address to the Department of Transportation and driving too fast for traffic conditions.

Originally incarcerated in the Christian County Jail on $750,000 bond, Carpinet is out on ankle monitor, is pregnant and is expecting her child in early August.

Crider also entered documents proving the attending of obstetrics appointments, as well as other medical details surrounding Carpinet.

In the early morning of New Year’s Day, Brandon was reportedly hit by an SUV driven by Carpinet, as Brandon was walking along Military Road near Roaring Springs Christian Church.

Trigg County Sheriff Aaron Acree said then the 22-year-old Carpinet would have an assault charge upgraded to second-degree manslaughter, which carries with it the potential penalties of a Class C felony.

Carpinet was arrested at the scene of the accident.
