Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technicians at Fort Campbell were called to Lyon County Monday evening to help deputies disarm and remove some explosives.

Lyon County Sheriff Brent White said in a post on social media that the 184th Ordnance Battalion, 49th Ordnance Company Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technicians assisted Deputies Joe Witherspoon and Seth P’Pool after some military ordinance was located with some private property of a recently deceased veteran. He said the ordnance consisted of numerous items including yellow banded TNT tubes, hand grenades, M117 booby trap devices, military-grade blasting caps, and other various explosive devices.

According to Sheriff White, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technicians rendered the devices safe and removed them to Fort Campbell for destruction. He said no charges are expected to be filed with this incident.

Sheriff White also said if you or a family member come upon explosive devices, do not touch or move them. Call law enforcement so that appropriate measures can be taken to render them safe.
