Trigg School Board Hears Safety Training Update

On July 21 and 22, Trigg County Schools played host for active shooter training — in which a great number of local and regional officers, as well as school administrators, took part.

But it went a little bit deeper than guns, ammunition, and threats.

During Thursday’s Trigg County Board of Education meeting, Cadiz Police Officer Mike Felts — alongside SROs Richard Palmer and Jack Lingenfelter — described the two-day training to board members.

Previously reported by the News Edge, last Friday was scenario-driven, in which law enforcement went through six various experiences involving the elimination of targets and the neutralizing of classroom and campus threats.

Last Thursday, however, was mostly spent on combat triage and medical treatment — in the event of trauma within the schools.

Felts said it was based off of “TCCC” — or tactical combat casualty care.

In order to properly simulate the difficulty of the experience, Felts said they used “dummy legs” and raw pork shoulders for effect.
