The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man and woman after several hours of negotiating their surrender when deputies went to a home on Dryden Creek Road to execute warrants over the weekend and they barricaded themselves inside the home.
Sheriff Brent White says Deputy Keith Suits and troopers with Kentucky State Police went to Lot #54 on Dryden Creek Road off KY 274 to execute arrest warrants on 40-year old Alan M. Pettus of Mortons Gap around 10:45 Sunday morning. He indicates Pettus was on parole from a 2014 Lyon Circuit Court felony conviction in which he received a 16-year sentence. In addition, he said that Pettus had two outstanding warrants for his arrest out of Hopkins County.
Upon arrival, Sheriff White says law enforcement observed a person at the front door, who slammed the door and would not answer repeated calls to open the door. Additional units arrived at the scene to assist and Sheriff White was able to obtain a search warrant for the property.
According to Sheriff White, after several hours of attempting to negotiate a peaceful surrender, a female identified as 34-year old Andrea M. Breedlove, of Hopkinsville and formerly of Eddyville, exited the residence and was detained as she told investigators there was nobody else in the home.
Sheriff White says officers later saw a male subject smoking meth inside the residence. He adds after “less than lethal tactics were used” to encourage the male subject out of the residence, Pettus surrendered without further incident around 2:15 Sunday afternoon.
During a search of the home, officers reportedly found 3/4 of a pound of methamphetamine, digital scales, baggies, and multiple other items of drug paraphernalia.
Pettus was charged with resisting arrest, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance – 2nd Offense greater than 2 grams of meth, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
In addition, Pettus was charged with a complaint warrant from Kentucky State Police Post 2 for first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance – 2nd Offense greater than 2 grams of meth, possession of drug paraphernalia, cultivating marijuana less than 5 plants, theft by unlawful taking, terroristc threatening and tampering with a witness.
Pettus was also charged with a bench warrant for failure to appear on a Hopkins Circuit Court case for possession of meth – 2nd offense, possession of marijuana, and failure to wear seat belts. He was lodged in the Crittenden County Detention Center.
Breedlove was arrested by Kentucky State Police and charged with second-degree hindering prosecution/apprehension.
Sheriff White says additional charges may be pending as the investigation is ongoing.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by Kentucky State Police Post 1 Troopers, the Western Kentucky Violent Crimes Task Force, Lyon County EMS, Eddyville Fire Department, and Lyon County Animal Control.
