Considerable discovery remains for both Michaela Carpinet’s defense and the Commonwealth’s office — surrounding the January DUI death of Roaring Springs and 79-year-old man John Brandon.
During Wednesday’s pre-trial conference in Trigg County Circuit Court, Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Jill Giordano noted it was not yet time to set a trial date in the case.
Carpinet recently gave birth to a child, and remains on ankle monitor at this time with a $750,000 bond.
No longer a public defender, Attorney Cody Hooks made his first appearance as Carpinet’s defender.
Hooks asked for two months, which the Commonwealth found agreeable. He also noted that Carpinet has yet to see the discovery in her case, much less discuss anything at length.
Carpinet’s next pretrial conference was set for 11 AM, October 12.
She is charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, no registration plates, no Kentucky registration receipt, no driver’s license, failure to maintain required insurance, manslaughter second degree, failure to wear a seatbelt, failure to notify change of address to the Department of Transportation and driving too fast for traffic conditions.
