The suggestion of mediation in the case against Cadiz woman Shaylynn Curtis will need careful consideration from Commonwealth’s Attorney Carrie Ovey-Wiggins.
Such discussion took place during Wednesday’s afternoon session of Trigg County Circuit Court, in which Public Defender Katie Riley made her first appearance as defender for Curtis.
As Circuit Judge Jamus Redd notes, it’s Curtis’s third lawyer in three months.
Riley stated that she believed this case could go to mediation, to which Ovey-Wiggins said she was going to need some time.
Riley said she’s also previously represented Curtis in a previous court setting.
The next pretrial conference is set for 1 PM, October 12.
Curtis is charged with murder, abuse of a corpse, trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and second-degree disorderly conduct — all of it related to the death of her infant son on East Adams Mill Road.
Following a Kentucky State Police investigation completed in October 2021, Curtis allegedly took the body of her deceased 5-month-old, wrapped the child in a blanket, and placed him in the attic of her home.
