Hopkinsville City Council heard an encouraging financial report for the first month of the new fiscal year at Tuesday night’s meeting.
Chief Financial Officer Robert Martin said the city has completed the first month of this fiscal year and the payroll tax collections in July reflect an increase of 24.8% from last July.
click to download audioHe believes the reason the payroll tax is higher is due to an increase in people’s salaries and overtime pay.
click to download audioMartin also reported the general fund had a positive amount for expenses over revenue which is unusual for the first month of the fiscal year, and the business licenses are starting off well.
Two Hopkinsville Police Officers were also recognized. Sergeant Seth Meeks introduced and acknowledged Sergeant Michael Atkins and Sergeant Matthew Overby, the two newest members of the department’s leadership team.
Prior to the council going into a closed session, Councilman Terry Parker asked Public Works Administrator Mike Perry for an update about Tie Breaker Family Aquatic Park who stated they are on schedule with the repairs and renovations.

The council went into closed session to discuss an economic development proposal. When the meeting resumed in open session, Mayor Wendell Lynch announced no action was taken.
