Petroleum prices in west central Kentucky are nearly two cents lower on average this week, according to AAA’s weekly gas report.
During the week of August 15, the area’s average price was $3.396. That’s down to $3.381, while the national average for a gallon of gas fell a nickel to $3.90.
Average prices of unleaded self-serve gasoline in various areas include $3.22 in Elizabethtown, $3.26 in Paducah, $3.29 in Owensboro, $3.45 in Bowling Green and $3.68 in Louisville.
AAA once again is reporting that stable global prices and “modest” domestic demand are pushing prices down further, and that motorists are now benefiting from gas prices that are $1.11 lower than the mid-June peak.
However, prices are still on average 74 cents higher than this same week last year.
The Energy Information Administration reports that gas demand even rose slightly last week, from 9.12 million barrels per day to 9.35 million barrels per day. Although gasoline demand has risen and supplies have tightened, easing oil prices have helped lower pump prices.
At Friday’s close of trading, West Texas Intermediate increased by 27 cents to settle at $90.77.
