A Hopkinsville man was charged with assaulting a police officer after a traffic stop on Means Avenue Friday morning.
Hopkinsville Police say they stopped 33-year-old Paul Waites for an improper turn and one headlight being out on his vehicle.
During the stop, he reportedly called his mother and was trying to send her money to bail him out of jail through an app but became very angry when he was asked to step out of the vehicle.
Police say he resisted arrest and grabbed the car door and would not let it go then struck an officer in the face during the arrest.
He was arrested and charged with third-degree assault of a police officer, resisting arrest, and second-degree disorderly conduct.
