A crash involving two tractor-trailers on I-24 near the Tennessee state line Tuesday morning sent one of the drivers to a Nashville hospital for treatment of injuries and has caused a slowdown in traffic near the site.
Clarksville Police and Clarksville Fire Rescue responded to the crash around 9:30 and found that one of the trucks was hauling a flammable material and the cab of the truck had caught fire. Police said the driver was able to get out of the truck with the assistance of a Clarksville Police officer. The driver was flown to Nashville for treatment of his injuries.
Initially, traffic was shut down on I-24 East to allow the helicopter to load the patient. Clarksville Fire Rescue was able to extinguish the fire without the contents of the trailer being affected.
I-24 westbound traffic was diverted at Exit 1 causing a delay in getting through the area.
