In one of the closer races on Tuesday’s general election ballot, Melinda Humphries defeated Walter Cummings by 519 votes (7,933-7,414) to become the next Christian County Clerk.
Humphries, a Republican with 21 years of experience working in the county clerk’s office, has served as election coordinator in the past under retiring County Clerk Mike Kem. It was a position she stepped back from in both the May primary and November general election with her name on the ballot.
Cummings has served as country treasurer since 2006. It’s an appointed position that opens the door for a return under newly-elected Judge-executive Jerry Gilliam.
Several other county races were uncontested.
Sheriff Tyler DeArmond will serve a second term as Christian County sheriff.
Angie Strader, who was appointed PVA in 2009 by then-Governor Steve Beshear after Mills Foster retired, will serve a fourth full term beginning in January.
Jailer Adam Smith, Coroner Scott Daniel, and County Surveyor Bill Chaudoin were also unopposed Tuesday.
