Streeval Trial Set For August 2023

A new trial date has been set for Montie Streeval — charged with complicity to murder in the 2020 death of 25-year-old Powderly native Cameron Phillips, whose body was found dumped near a cemetery in eastern Trigg County.

Originally scheduled for jury selection on August 22, that date was wiped clean from the slate earlier this year by Judge Jamus Redd — as neither defense, nor prosecution, were prepared for litigation.

That tune changed Wednesday afternoon, when public defender Mike Crider and Assistant Commonwealth’s attorneys Chad Nelson and Jill Giordano only disagreed on how long a trial might last.

Redd noted Thursday, August 10, 2023 would best fit the loaded docket, with a pre-trial conference and status hearing set for 9 AM January 11, 2023.

Streeval is also charged as a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, possession of a controlled substance first degree, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia — all related to the death of Phillips.

It’s worth noting that Streeval’s representation has been in rotation during his incarceration. He was originally under the stewardship of Bill Deatherage and Cody Hooks, who have both moved on in other pursuits.

The Commonwealth’s office has been prepared to try this case, but noted Crider’s and Streeval’s predicament during a July hearing.
