More SAFE Funds Coming To Princeton For Water Repairs

As Kentucky approaches harrowing anniversaries with floods in the east, and tornadoes in the west, funding continues to unfurl for those most in need.

During his “Team Kentucky” update Thursday morning, Gov. Andy Beshear announced another $11.7 million in awards from both the WKY and EKY “SAFE” Funds — which includes a $65,000 payment to the Princeton Water and Wastewater System for their restoration of underground service lines damaged in the December 10 storm.

Beshear noted these monies are a backbone for long-term recovery groups across the Commonwealth, who will remain on the ground to assess damages and hopeful repairs for years to come.

Between the Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund, the Eastern Kentucky Flood Relief Fund and the efforts from the Kentucky General Assembly, Beshear once again noted that non-partisanship made the rapid response to these tragedies possible.

Another WKY SAFE Fund payment went to the City of Bowling Green, with more than $500,000 allocated to restore its greenspace.

As for eastern Kentucky, Beshear noted that more than 200 people remain in housing arrangements under the State Parks System, and more than 650 individuals reside in state-purchased travel trailers posted in 10 different locations.

These are the same kinds of efforts that were afforded for west Kentucky tornado victims.

The Team Eastern Kentucky Flood Relief Fund has now raised more than $12 million behind 41,000-plus donors.
