An Oak Grove woman was sentenced Wednesday morning to five years in jail in connection to the June 2020 death of her daughter.
Last month, Patricia Conyers entered an Alford plea in Christian Circuit Court as part of a plea deal on a charge of second-degree manslaughter. An Alford plea is a formal admission of guilt toward charges in criminal court while the defendant expresses their innocence of the charges.
Conyers and her attorney, Jason Holland along with Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling appeared before Judge John Atkins Wednesday morning for sentencing. Holland asked Judge Atkins for his client to be probated because “she has to live with this the rest of her life.”

click to download audioJudge Atkins then remanded Conyers to the custody of the sheriff’s office for delivery to the jail where she will await instructions from the Department of Corrections of where she will be incarcerated.
According to Oak Grove Police, Conyers neglected to give her 16-year old daughter her medication as directed and canceled or did not attend scheduled doctor’s appointments. Police said if her daughter’s fatal acute illness had been treated timely and appropriately it would have not led to her death.
