Bond Modification Denied In Oak Grove Elder Abuse Murder

A Christian Circuit Court judge denied a motion to modify the bond for an Oak Grove man charged with the murder and criminal abuse of his father.

Jacob Gilstrap is charged with murder, first-degree criminal abuse and other charges in connection to the death of 70-year old Anthony Gilstrap, Sr.

Gilstrap, his attorney and Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Jared Smith appeared before Judge Andrew Self Monday morning. Smith asked for the hearing to be continued with another pretrial conference scheduled for January 23rd.

click to download audioGilstrap and his girlfriend, Ann Harrison were charged after an investigation by Oak Grove Police that began when Gilstrap, Sr. had been taken to the hospital on July 10th and was reportedly unresponsive with signs of severe neglect, gangrene, sepsis, an open wound with bones exposed, and pressure ulcers. He died a month later.

According to police, Gilstrap and Harrison also put themselves as power of attorney over the man’s banking account and removed money from his account, as well as started a life insurance policy for him.

During a hearing in November, Judge Self released Harrison on home incarceration. Gilstrap remains lodged in the Christian County Jail on a $502,000 bond.
