Our Wednesday will start off mostly sunny but clouds will increase during the afternoon. Highs will start off on the warm side in the mid to upper 40’s. Scattered rain Thursday morning will become steadier and more widespread through the afternoon as an Arctic cold front approaches. Once the front passes by early evening, rain will quickly change to snow. Once the rain changes to snow Thursday evening, conditions will deteriorate rapidly. The snow could be heavy at times.
There is the potential for bursts of heavy snow to develop causing reduced visibility. The temperatures will drop so fast that a massive flash freeze may occur causing roads to ice over in seconds leading to hazardous travel conditions. This will catch you off guard if you are not aware of what is happening. Aside from that, strong wind gusts will lead to dangerous life threatening wind chills between -15 to -24 degrees below zero early Friday morning. A Wind Chill Watch has been issued starting from Thursday evening through Friday morning.
One final thing… there is still decent uncertainty on snow amounts. I was thinking 1 to 3 inches for western Kentucky. But the latest models are showing trends to higher snowfall amounts…as much as 3 to 5 inches is now being indicated. Bottom Line…folks this is a dangerous storm and many of you may not have seen a winter storm this intense. Take it seriously. It will not be safe to be out Thursday night. So make your final preparations quickly before Thursday evening. I guess you could say this is a Milk and Bread Alert storm.
