Defense Mulling Over DNA Evidence In Spikes Murder Case

A Christian County Circuit Court judge has set a deadline for the Commonwealth’s Attorney to get some discovery turned over to the attorney of Bobby Spikes, who is accused of killing a Hopkinsville man last year.

Spikes, who had dual addresses of Hopkinsville and Princeton, is charged with the murder of Stanley Bussell. It stems from a state police investigation that began after a Trigg County Sheriff’s deputy on patrol discovered 34-year old Candice Marcel dead in a vehicle on Cerulean Road on December 9 of last year. During the investigation, state police went to Marcel’s Hopkinsville home and found the body of Bussell.

State police said that Bussell was allegedly lured by his co-worker, Marcel, to her residence in Hopkinsville where he was shot in the head. State police also reported that Spikes was the boyfriend of Marcel and was known to frequent her residence.

Spikes’ attorney, Doug Moore appeared before Judge John Atkins and said he has spoken with Commonwealth’s Attorney Carrie Ovey-Wiggins about an indictment in Trigg County regarding Marcel and should receive information from her about DNA evidence soon.
