Lawrence, Alexander Bid Farewell To Trigg Fiscal Court

A pair of longtime county servants bid adieu to the local political landscape at this week’s Trigg County Fiscal Court meeting, in Magistrate Larry Lawrence and Judge-Executive Hollis Alexander.

For the past 24 years in District 6, Lawrence has been a stalwart in the Canton/Linton area, and on Monday thanked his constituents for choosing his leadership.

He also addressed the court about his recent “Dr. Tom Martin” Honor of Service.

Also a former Cadiz Police Chief, Cadiz City Clerk and detective of the Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force, Alexander too thanked constituents for their decade of support in the office.

Alexander also thanked the court for its efforts in the last decade before receiving a round of applause, with Lawrence closing on the fact that Pat Bush will be taking his seat in the spring, and former Judge-Executive Stan Humphries will be snagging Alexander’s.

Local citizen and recent public servant Ken Culwell also offered his thanks and appreciation to both Lawrence and Alexander.

Lawrence and Alexander’s last acts for the fiscal court will come December 28, when from 11 AM until 1 PM officials have planned to complete the dedication and signage for three areas in Trigg County: the Conroy Atwood stretch near Pete Light Hill, Sgt. Major Tony Baker Highway near Cerulean, and the David Kyler Memorial Bridge over Burge Creek along 139 South Road.

New county officials are scheduled to be sworn in by Judge Jamus Redd at 10 AM December 27, on the third floor of the Trigg County Justice Center.

In other court news:

— County Clerk Carmen Finley announced Tuesday that her office’s budget for the 2023 calendar year is only increasing 2% from last, due to rising interest rates and other bearish concerns for the local economy. She added that it was another “record year” for returns and fees following a successful 2021, and that the Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives grant totaling more than $27,000 and received for the improvement of record scanning has yet to be spent.

— Magistrates unanimously approved the authorization and designation of more than $153,000 in RDAAP funds be allocated toward the debt service of the newly-announced spec building being constructed at the I-24 Business Park in east Trigg County. This is for fiscal years 2022-24.

— Alexander made the court aware of a letter written by Betty R. Perry, in which she respectfully asks for her driveway on 25 Atkins Road be removed from the county road plan. She wrote the letter on December 18.
