A recent, and continuing, winter-weather event combined with sub-zero temperatures has officials with Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority asking for utility conservation until warmer weather arrives.
Because of these factors, HWEA is experiencing what it calls “unusually high demand,” believed to be the case due to leaks from burst pipes, the consistent dripping of faucets and a push from the general population.
As temperatures crest above 32 degrees, HWEA is asking customers to refrain from dripping faucets — as a small countermeasure to improve demand.
If a water leak is persists on yours, a neighboring property or a nearby business, HWEA is also asking customers to call immediately to rectify the situation. The main office can be reached at (270) 887-4246, and the after-hours team can be reached at (270) 887-4232.
Try and use all water, if possible, even from drips.
Officials from HWEA indicate that if these measures are not successful in reducing high demaind, the organization “may elect to implement further restrictions.”
