The unemployment rate in the nine-county Pennyrile region saw a slight increase in October compared to the previous month and the same month in 2021.
Trigg County’s October unemployment rate was 4.5%, which was six-tenths of a percent higher than in September and the same as October of last year.
The estimates from the Kentucky Center for Statistics show Trigg County with a labor force of 6,156 people, with 278 people actively seeking work in October.
In Christian County, the October jobless rate was 5.5%, 1.1% higher than in September and six-tenths of a percent higher than in October of last year.
The estimates show Christian County with a civilian labor force of 25,079 people, with 1,220 people actively seeking work in October.
Statewide, unemployment rates fell in 91 counties between October of this year and last year, rose in 18, and remained the same in 11.
Woodford County had the state’s lowest jobless rate in October at three percent followed by Cumberland and Oldham counties at 3.1%. Cumberland and Marion counties were the only ones outside of the ‘Golden Triangle’ to be among the 13 lowest rates in the state.
Magoffin County recorded the state’s highest unemployment rate at 8.9%. It was followed by 10 other eastern Kentucky counties — all over 6.6%.
