Nearly $3 Million In Federal Funding Approved For Hopkins County

As rebuilding efforts continue after the December 2021 tornadoes, FEMA has approved nearly $3 million in federal funding to reimburse Hopkins County for debris removal as a result of the storms.

In a release, FEMA announced it has approved $2,919, 033 for debris removal throughout Hopkins County for the periods of December 10 through December 26, 2021 and January 27 through June 10, 2022. During this time period, officials indicate contractors removed 143,385 cubic yards of debris throughout Hopkins County that posed a threat to public health and safety.

FEMA officials say this project was funded at a 90% cost share, meaning FEMA reimburses applicants at 90% of eligible costs with the remaining 10% covered by the Commonwealth.

According to FEMA, it obligates funding for these projects directly to the Commonwealth. It is the Commonwealth’s responsibility to ensure the eligible sub-recipients receive these awards. Following the Commonwealth’s review process and upon receipt of appropriate documentation, it will reimburse the sub-recipients.

FEMA’s Public Assistance program provides grants to state, tribal and local governments and certain types of private nonprofit organizations, including eligible houses of worship.
