Country music artist Chris Janson was announced Monday morning as the headlining act for the 16th Annual “Spring Into Summer Salutes Fort Campbell,” set for the stage at 7 PM Saturday, May 27 in Oak Grove.
A member of the Grand Ole Opry and multi-platinum songwriter and artist, Janson is part of country’s “new breed,” in which he’s in touch with “the lighter side” of life with a trio of self-penned No. 1’s in “Fix A Drink,” “Good Vibes” and the triple-platinum “Buy Me A Boat.”
He also has some more thoughtful tunes in “Done,” “Things You Can’t Live Without” and the CMA “Song of the Year” nominee and ACM “Video of the Year” “Drunk Girl.”
Both “Buy Me A Boat” and “Drunk Girl” were named to the Nashville Songwriters Association International “Songs I Wish I’d Written” list, and it’s why artists like Tim McGraw, Justin Moore, Cody Johnson and Hank Williams Jr. have reached out for Janson’s songs regarding their own projects.
Rolling Stone magazine has already proclaimed him “a live legacy in the making,” and he is a frequent presence at the nation’s biggest country festivals, tours and unexpected sit-ins.
Traci Cunningham, executive director of the Oak Grove Tourism & Convention Commission, said Janson made “the perfect fit” for this year’s festival — especially since he’s “a great entertainer” and “major supporter of military.” Cunningham added they’re always looking for someone to give men and women “the best show possible,” and that Janson could do it.
That Saturday, there will be a six-man parachute jump show before the concert. Following, there will be a fireworks spectacular display.
Activities will run from noon until 9 PM May 27, and from noon until 6 PM May 28 — including the bubble zone and free carnival rides.
The concert is also free to the public.
Everything takes place at War Memorial Walking Trail Park; 101 Walter Garrett Lane in Oak Grove. For more information, head online to www.visitoakgroveky.com.
