A request to check the welfare of a man on the side of the road with a vehicle led to drug charges for a Hopkinsville man and woman Sunday night.
Christian County Sheriff’s deputies say they were called to the 20-mile marker of Pennyrile Parkway for a man on the side of the road with a flashlight near a vehicle.
When they arrive they located, 26-year-old Andrew Ferguson and 34-year-old Jessica Carroll who claimed they had borrowed a vehicle from someone and it had broken down.
The names they reportedly gave deputies of who let them borrow the vehicle did not match the registered owner of the vehicle and they could not show proof of insurance and the registration was expired.
Law enforcement K9 Zico was used to check the vehicle and deputies say he alerted to the presence of drugs.
After a search of the vehicle, meth, marijuana, a smoking device, a digital scale, a syringe, a marijuana grinder, and a glass pipe were reportedly located.
They were both arrested and charged with trafficking marijuana and possession of meth. Carroll was also cited for no registration receipt, no registration plates, and failure to maintain required insurance.
