More than 100 personnel attached to the 1st Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment are expected to return to Fort Campbell this Saturday afternoon, back from a nine-month deployment as part of the United States Central Command with Operation “Inherent Resolve.”
Their mission: to work by, with and through regional partners to “militarily defeat” the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS.
In a written statement to the media, Col. Clint Cody, commander of the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, said he was “thrilled” to have soldiers returning home to their loved ones following a “long, nine-month deployment to the Middle East.” He added their hard work and sacrifice are “a testament” to their dedication for the “Wings of Destiny” brigade, the 101st Airborne Division, and the United States.
From June 2022 until now, this “Task Force No Mercy” deployed to the Central Command Area of Operations in support not just with “Inherent Resolve,” but also Operation “Spartan Shield,” and during this period, the unit provided “lethal combat power” to the Combined Joint Task Force across Iraq and Syria.
Soldiers will land around 11:30 AM Saturday, arriving by plane at the Passenger Processing Center — where they will offload professional gear and receive briefs on the following day’s events.
From 12:30-1 PM Saturday, the Family Welcome Area will open, where other soldiers and loved ones will gather at Saber Army Airfield to greet those returning from deployment.
From 1-1:30 PM Saturday, a ceremony and keynote speaker will begin once families are present, and redeployment activities are complete at the airfield.
