Kenneth Bates Passes Away After Brief Illness

A long-time area radio personality and one-term Christian County magistrate passed away earlier this week after a brief illness.

Kenneth “The Doctor” Bates, who was 71 years old, died Tuesday.

For over 40 years, Bates graced the airwaves of WHOP, Missionary Radio out of Hopkinsville, WEKT in Elkton, and hosted a morning show on KISS-FM – WQKS; which eventually became WHVO.

Missionary Radio General Manger Ken Cummins tells the News Edge that Bates hosted a gospel show on his station since its inception.

Cummins says Bates always shined the light of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Cummins adds that Bates was a man of great integrity.

During his time on various local radio stations, Bates also took the time to serve his community by representing District 1 for one term on Christian County Fiscal Court from 2015 to 2018. Cummins says Bates served his district well and represented them on many boards and committees.

Missionary Radio will air Bates’ last recorded program of ‘Love and Inspiration’ Saturday afternoon at 4:00 and Sunday afternoon at 3:00.
