Ribbon Cutting Held for New Hopkinsville Accessible Swing Set

Caleb Hayes and his father Robert are the first to enjoy the new accessible swing at DeBow Park

A new accessible swing set is ready for those who are wheelchair-bound at DeBow Park in Hopkinsville.

During a ribbon cutting held by the Christian County Chamber of Commerce Tuesday afternoon, members of the Hopkinsville, Christian & Todd Counties Association of Realtors, Inc. were on hand to showcase the new piece of equipment.

The equipment came at a cost of $8,000 and was fully supported by grant funding found by Gaye Wilson.

She served as the Chief Executive Officer of the group from 1994 to 2021.

The process took around three years and started with a Facebook post from Heather Hayes, asking why there was no publicly accessible swingset in Hopkinsville.

Robert Hayes, husband to Heather, and father to Caleb, the first user of the swingset, tells the News Edge they are glad to finally have it available.

Tuesday’s ribbon cutting was sponsored by Jennie Stuart Health.
