Man And Woman Charged With Criminal Abuse Of A Child

A report of an unresponsive child in Hopkinsville led to a man and woman being charged with criminal abuse Wednesday.

Hopkinsville Police say they were called to the home on February 7th for a 4-year-old that was unresponsive and his mother 23-year-old Shantarria Norris and the child’s stepfather 27-year-old Tevin Ward stated they thought the child had drunk from the toilet.

The child was reportedly taken to Jennie Stuart Health and then flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville and the medical staff confirmed the child was severely dehydrated, malnourished, and had to be intubated.

Police say bruises were found around the torso, neck, and leg of the child. Norris and Ward were both arrested and charged with first-degree criminal abuse.
