A Crofton man was charged after leading law enforcement on a high-speed pursuit in Christian County Friday afternoon.
Christian County Sheriff’s deputies say Deputy Kevin Quarles attempted to stop 33-year-old Joshua Smith on Old Madisonville Road in a stolen vehicle and he fled at speeds of over 100 mph before law enforcement used spike strips near Madisonville Road.
The car reportedly hit Sheriff Tyler DeArmond’s vehicle and narrowly missed Lt. Scott Smith who was on foot during the pursuit causing him to take measures to protect himself from serious physical injury or death.
Joshua Smith then reportedly ran off the road and the car overturned coming to a rest on a guardrail at the intersection of Madisonville Road.
Deputies say Joshua Smith attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended.
He was taken into custody and charged with attempted murder of a police officer, first-degree fleeing or evading police, speeding, first-degree possession of a controlled substance (drug unspecified), possession of meth, reckless driving, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, receiving stolen property, and operating on a suspended or revoke license.
