Commonwealth Says California Witnesses May Testify In Stinson Trial

When the trial of Cadiz man Landon Stinson begins September 18, there may be some out-of-state testimony coming on behalf of the prosecution.

During Wednesday’s pre-trial conference in Trigg County Circuit Court, Commonwealth’s Attorney Carrie Ovey-Wiggins told the court and Judge Natalie White that she’d already been in contact with individuals in California — who could attest to some details regarding Stinson’s appearance there soon after the summer 2021 murders of Sue Faris and Matthew Blakeley.

Ovey-Wiggins further noted that the Commonwealth has conducted some additional interviews with Kentucky State Police since the court had convened for Stinson in November 2022 and January 2023, and that they had already been turned over as discovery for the family and its defense attorney, Bill Deatherage.

It’s possible, she added, that the California witnesses testify by video conference call through Zoom, though that remains up for discussion.

Furthermore, she said the time for submitting subpoenas is quickly approaching.

Judge Natalie White set the next pre-trial conference for 1 PM, April 12.

Still incarcerated at the Christian County Jail on a $2 million bond, Stinson was extradited from California and back to Kentucky in September 2021. Then, in December 2021, a grand jury indictment ordered a true bill for those two counts of murder.

Both Faris and Blakeley were found dead in her Cadiz home on Cerulean Road. Autopsies declared they both died from gunshot wounds.
