Trigg County High School Senior Makenna Potts earned a $4,000 scholarship after a top ten placing at the National VFW Voice of Democracy contest in Washington, DC.
VFW Post 7890 spokesman Karle Johnson says Potts earned an 8th place ranking in the competition that was held Monday, March 6, in Washington, DC.

Potts is the second Trigg Countian to compete in the national Voice of Democracy competition. John Goode represented Trigg County when he won the state Voice of Democracy contest in 1973. Goode went on to National competition where he was runner-up and earned a $5,000 scholarship. Goode was also a student employee at WKDZ and later became a music teacher and band director in the Houston, Texas, area.
