The merger of Christian County and Hopkinsville high schools is still on hold as work waits to be started on the future campus for Hopkinsville-Christian County Academy on Fort Campbell Boulevard.
Christian County Public Schools Superintendent Chris Bentzel tells Your News Edge they had to drop back and punt the project after learning the construction cost had ballooned to more than they could afford.
Bentzel says they did not put their heads down after learning about needing to make the changes, and the construction designs are now complete.
He adds they would like to see the project go out for bids after spring break.
As Your News Edge reported in November 2021, the Christian County Public School District purchased approximately 87 acres of land on Fort Campbell Boulevard at the intersection with Lovers Lane.
The land cost $6 million and was purchased from Associated Ventures, LLC.
Bids for the project received in July 2022 ranged from $198.85 million from DW Wilburn to $203.4 million from A&K Construction.
