Christian County Agribusiness Salutes 2023 Award Winners

The Christian County Agribusiness Association is recognizing the dedication of a longtime agribusinessman, a well-known farmer, a tractor dealership, and a vital friend of agriculture.

Awards were presented during the annual Christian County Salute to Agriculture breakfast at the Bruce Convention Center Thursday, March 23.

Charles Petty

Retired Kentucky American Seed founder and owner Charles Petty was honored with the Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award. The honor was presented by Agribusiness Awards Committee member Brandon Garnett, who talked about Petty’s impact on agriculture during his extensive career.

Robert Gray

Christian County farmer Robert Gray was named the 2023 Farmer of the Year. Fellow farmer Joseph Sisk says Gray continues to be a leader in agriculture in Christian County and the surrounding region.

Alvin Schmitt and his family

The Friend of Agriculture Award was presented to Alvin Schmitt, who has spent his career working with Agri-Chem. The award was presented by friend and former employer Wayne Hunt, who described Schmidt’s dedication to agriculture and his family during his life.

Hutson, Inc. was named the Agribusiness of the Year. Committee member Mary Beth Shackleford says the John Deere dealership continues to be a vital part of the agriculture community.

After welcoming the Huston, Inc. crew to the stage, Shackleford presented the award in honor of Kendall Irwin.

Irwin, a forty-year employee of Huston, passed away in May 2022. His family was on hand for the presentation.

Warren Beeler, known as Mr. Agriculture in Kentucky, brought a message of thanks and appreciation to farmers and members of the agribusiness community in Christian County during that breakfast this morning.
