Hopkinsville’s Salvation Army Seeking Volunteers And Donations

Lindsey Galabeas

The Salvation Army in Hopkinsville has reopened inside dining for its soup kitchen, after only serving to-go meals for the last three years.

Lieutenant Lindsey Galabeas tells Your News Edge they are still operating on a hybrid model until they get more volunteers to help with opening the inside daily.

She adds volunteers are desperately needed.

As for fundraisers, the Hopkinsville Salvation Army will host its beloved Taco Night on Cinco de Mayo, Friday, May 5th. Tickets will be $10 each.

The Salvation Army shelter, which was open 24/7 throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, has recently shifted due to a loss of funding. The shelter now closes each morning by 7:30 and reopens each afternoon at 4:30. On Sundays, they reopen at noon.

Galabeas adds if they could get 14 individuals or churches to commit to donating $500 a month for a year, they would be able to return to a 24/7 shelter.
