Only one bidder raised his hand during Friday’s auction of Arrowhead Golf Course with the bid coming in well below what the owners were hoping for the Cadiz property.
In the clubhouse of the golf course, there were about 40 interested spectators and bidders, including some of the golf course’s original investors when it opened in 1996. There was also an unknown number of online bidders at the auction conducted by Josh Abner with Atlas Real Estate and Auction.
An unnamed bidder from Hopkinsville submitted a bid for $125,000 for the 158 acres that was split into three tracts which included the clubhouse.
click to download audioThe same bidder also submitted a $100,000 bid for the 88-acre tract of land south of U.S. 68 that includes the maintenance shop and 3,500 feet of land that fronts the Little River. Two other tracts of land — one on the north side of U.S. 68 and another that includes the clubhouse, did not receive a bid.
The golf course owners, K & J Golf Course Management, purchased the golf course about 15 years ago after it was dormant for two years. It was listed for sale online for $300,000. The owners have a limited window of whether to accept or reject Friday’s bid.
The 18-hole, 6,750-yard regulation course features a driving range, fairways, greens, ponds, and cart paths that was designed by Gary Roger Baird.
There were 83 investors involved in the initial construction of the golf course, which features dozens of homes scattered along its boundaries. Texas native Marshall Roberts and three other original investors purchased the golf course in 2000. At that time, Roberts said he spent over $350,000 to improve the greens and fairways of the course. There were also unrealized plans to pave the parking lot and build a restaurant next to the clubhouse.
With the golf course up for sale, it’s not immediately known if it will reopen before any transaction made by the owners.
