David Edward Gilkey, age 76, of Hopkinsville, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at his home of natural causes. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Shearon officiating and burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home on Sunday, April 2, 2023, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements.
Mr. Gilkey was born in Hopkinsville, on April 4, 1946, the son of the late William Jessie and Bertie Frances Humphries Gilkey. David retired as a coordinator of materials after 39 years with Pennyrile Rural Electric Co-Operative. He was a cattle farmer and enjoyed farming with his son. David was a part-time auctioneer for Cox Real Estate and Auction and later Town and Country Auction. He was also a member of Liberty Christian Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, William Jessie Gilkey Jr. “Soup”; and his sister Margaret Meador.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Judy Gilkey of Hopkinsville; his son, Scott Gilkey, and his wife Tiffany of Hopkinsville; his daughter Lori Gilkey Blakeley and her husband Jason of Hopkinsville; his sister, Linda West and her husband Jim of Hopkinsville; and his grandchildren, Taylor Lynn Blakeley, Jesse David Gilkey, and Addison Grace Gilkey.
