The Way Christian Youth Center in Trigg County is thanking the community for its support with its yard sale and pancake breakfast held Saturday.
Director Carl Heckman told Your News Edge over $7,000 was raised during the event. The yard sale brought in $6,954, while the pancake breakfast collected $903.
Heckman said funds raised will help expand The Way’s ministry by getting a new building on the Lafayette Street campus.
Those classes include guitar and piano lessons, job training, and others, but those tasks are not able to be done when middle and high school students are in the building after school.
Heckman added the hope is to have vacation bible schools and other activities geared toward younger students.
The building will cost around $425,000.
The Way already has around $170,000 because of the community’s generosity. Heckman said they do not want to borrow money to fund the project.
Donations can be made here or by visiting the center at 197 Lafayette Street Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays from 3:00 to 5:30 PM and Fridays from 3:00 to 6:00 PM.
