Defense Still Awaiting Discovery In Infant Murder Case

The attorney for a Fort Campbell soldier charged with the murder of a 15-month-old child last year told Christian County Circuit Judge Andrew Self that he is still waiting to receive discovery from the commonwealth attorney's office.

In a Wednesday court appearance, Heck's attorney, Michael Thompson, told the court he wasn't sure he had received all of the discovery from former Commonwealth's Attorney Rick Boling. Stephanie Bolen, who was appointed by Governor Andy Beshear to replace Boling earlier this year, said Thompson was welcome to come by her office and get any discovery he needed.

Judge Self encouraged both sides to move forward in the case and not let their feet drag.

Heck is charged with the death of a 15-month-old child in March of last year. Police said the child, who was not related to Heck, died of blunt force trauma.

Thompson said the child’s mother was living with Heck and his wife at the time of the child’s death. Thompson said it was Heck who found the child unresponsive and called for help. Bolen said in a previous court appearance that Heck was the only adult in the home when the child was found unresponsive.

Last month, Heck, a soldier stationed at Fort Campbell, was released on a reduced bond and order to wear an ankle monitor and stay on post.

The sides are expected back in court on July 12.
