KYTC, Lyon County Remove Work Zone Near Exit 40

Officials with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet have removed the work zone lane restriction along I-24 eastbound the 41-mile marker in Lyon County — where a sinkhole, and a discovered natural spring, developed along the right-of-way this past weekend.

Just off the edge of the paved shoulder, the sinkhole was excavated on Monday. Engineers said the sinkhole was created by the natural spring, and soil erosion over time created the void beneath the shoulder.

The hole was filled with concrete and a rocked drain was created to allow water from the spring to seep into a nearby ditch line.

This work zone lane restriction was just along I-24 eastbound, east of the U.S. 62 Eddyville-Kuttawa Exit 40 Interchange.

Traffic has returned to normal flow at the site in time for the Memorial Day holiday weekend travel period.
