October Trial Date Set For Machete-Wielding Assailant

Public Defender Eric Bearden said Wednesday he’s not “giving up” on getting the case of Darryl Dixon quickly resolved.

However, just in case, he, Judge Andrew Self and Commonwealth’s Attorney Stephanie Bolen agreed to a trial date for October 30, with the next pre-trial conference planned for 9 AM, October 4.

Bearden also noted to the court he would be filing a bond motion prior to October, and likely before the end of the summer.

On March 16, the News Edge reported that Dixon — a Hopkinsville man — was charged with first-degree assault, after he allegedly attacked a woman with a machete on March 5.

Hopkinsville Police reported the 50-year-old got into an argument with a woman on West 13th Street, presumably over who she was “talking to, or dating,” and then stabbed her with a knife, punched her, and cut her arm with a machete.

A tourniquet had to be administered to slow the bleeding, and she had severe lacerations on her arm, a stab wound on her left ankle, as well as a swollen black eye.

Also according to the report, Dixon had allegedly smoked methamphetamine prior to the rampage. Police indicated at the time that the victim could lose mobility in her left arm, following the damage.

Dixon was arrested by the Christian County Sheriff’s Office on KY 272 and was also charged with resisting arrest and kidnapping (with serious physical injury).

Self inquired Wednesday about a previous case with Dixon that’s already been resolved. In April 2022, Dixon was arrested on West 13th Street following service of several active warrants — which included failure to comply with the sex offender registry second offense and four counts of contempt of court.
