Kevin “Kris” Carr passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Fla.
Kris proudly served in the U.S. Navy from May ’91 through May ’95 as an electrical engineer onboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt CVN71. After discharge, he became a boiler inspector. He earned his MBA in 2017 and started working in project management, which he truly loved and thrived at.
Kris had many passions in life. He was the biggest Bears fan, loved baseball, and rooted for the Cubs and the White Sox. One of his best sports memories was going to see the Sox play in the 2005 World Series. He was a fast-pitch travel coach for many years when his daughter Alex played, with both the New Lenox Power and the New Lenox Lightning, and also coached travel basketball. Those years were some of his most treasured memories and he cared deeply for each of the girls that he coached. He loved cars, especially his Trans Ams and Corvette, and going to car shows had many special memories with Kara from those times.
Kris loved to travel, having many Vander Laan and Carr family vacations to Disney over the years; Vander Laan family cottage vacations in Michigan, where he loved spending time with all the family members, especially being silly Uncle Kris to his nieces and nephews; family vacations to Colorado for a number of years for travel tournaments, as well as many other locations for tournaments. Cruising was also something he enjoyed very much with his Carr family, and his nephews really loved those times. He will be greatly missed on all future cruises and vacations.
