A Clarksville man charged with the robbery and kidnapping of an Oak Grove man in 2020 saw his Thursday trial date vacated as officials look to have him returned to Tennessee to face felony charges there first.

Dawaun Davis appeared in Christian County Circuit Wednesday morning before Judge John Atkins, who agreed to vacate Thursday’s trial date.

In Kentucky, Davis is charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree assault, and kidnapping.

Police said Davis shot Justin Sawyer five times during an alleged drug deal in the parking lot of a gas station on Kentucky 115 in December 2020. Two other men, Marquel Sims and Gene Henry, helped move Sawyer’s body to the trunk of the vehicle.

Sawyer’s charred body was found in a field north of Clarksville four months later.

Both Henry and Sims have pled guilty to related charges and were sentenced to five years in prison.
