Streeval Trial Moved From August 10 To January 2024

Another unfortunate, yet understandable, delay has come in the case of Montie Streeval — a Trigg County man charged with the 2020 murder and body disposal of 25-year-old Powderly native Cameron Phillips, and whose remains were discovered in a local cemetery.

During a Wednesday appearance in Trigg County Circuit Court, public defender Olivia Adams entered in a motion to continue the coming trial from August 10 to January 29, 2024 — one of which both the Commonwealth’s attorney and Judge Jamus Redd agreed to, given circumstances.

While COVID-19 and a massive rotation of defense counselors have been key culprits to the stalling of this trial, Adams noted she’s only recently returned to work — following a two-month hiatus in the wake of grievous personal loss.

Madisonville Police has reported the murder-suicide of Adams’ mother and stepfather, Jayne and Donald Hundley, occurred late March in Madisonville.

Adams said some key points were learned during a recent, informal mediation between all parties.

Also charged as a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, possession of a controlled substance first degree, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia, Redd revealed Wednesday morning a new indictment of first degree persistent felony offender has been levied against Streeval — with all charges related to Phillips’ death.

Formalities were waived and a plea of “not guilty” was entered. Adams, who is Streeval’s sixth attorney, said the indictment will be taken under her office’s advisement.

The Commonwealth and Redd both noted the age on this case looms regardless, but through no fault of Adams.

Meanwhile, Adams confirmed that both she and defender Michael Cutthoff have plans to rotate defensive assignments in Hopkinsville, so as to expedite appearances in Trigg County. Both Cutthoff and Adams arrived for their 9 AM Cadiz docket at 11:15 AM Wednesday, as Christian County’s criminal docket and backlog continues to swell in the wake of litigation.

As such, Redd also granted the next pre-trial conference be set for 9 AM, October 11.
