The National Weather Service in Paducah will be surveying damages in the Hopson Community in the coming days to determine if a tornado touched down in that area Tuesday afternoon, according to Caldwell County Emergency Management Director Joey McCaslin.
McCaslin told the News Edge the damages affected four residents in the 9000 block of KY 139 South/Cadiz Road in the area known as the Hopson Community. He says the damages appear to be tornadic with an eyewitness reporting he saw a rotation hit the ground in that area at the time of the storm. However, McCaslin says the National Weather Service will conduct a storm survey to make the final determination if it was a tornado that destroyed a vacant mobile home and damaged three homes and a barn in the area.
According to McCaslin, the damages to the homes are repairable. He notes one of the homes had damage to the front porch along with damages to a barn roof and a wooden fence on the property. Another resident reportedly had damages to a home and a rear window that was broken out of a vehicle. McCaslin says there were also several downed trees around the homes and in the immediate area. Luckily, McCaslin says there were no injuries reported.
McCaslin says there have been no other reports of storm damages in the county.
Reports indicate there were more than 1,000 Pennyrile electric customers without power during the afternoon and evening hours due to the severe storms that moved through the region.
