The Tennessee Valley Authority announced Monday plans to invest approximately $30 million in the construction of a new switching station and two 161-kilovolt power lines in Hopkinsville, that will benefit Christian and Todd Counties.
Officials said the project will significantly contribute to the region’s power infrastructure, ensuring a reliable and efficient energy supply to support future growth and development.
The strategic move aims to prepare both counties for future growth by enhancing regional power reliability. The new 161-kilovolt switching station will be located on the property of Commerce Park II Industrial Park, south of John Rivers Road and north of Long Pond Road. One of the transmission lines will run adjacent to the switching station, while the other will commence north of Old Trenton Road and extend westward towards the substation. The route was chosen to minimize any adverse impact on the surrounding area.
To facilitate construction, operation, and maintenance, the TVA will engage in discussions with property owners along the proposed right-of-way to secure easements beginning in the winter of 2024-25. Construction is slated to begin in the fall of 2025 and is expected to be completed by the spring of 2026.
