Mary Pettus, 97, of Hopkinsville

Mary Elizabeth Hopper Pettus, 97, Hopkinsville, passed on Thursday, July 27, 2023, of natural causes.

Services will be Thursday, August 3 at 12:00 at the First Street Baptist Church.

Burial will follow in the Cave Spring Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday morning at 11:00 at the church.

Gamble Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary, the daughter of the late Aaron and Allie Hopper, was born on November 21, 1925, in Elkton, Ky.

Mary was a member of First Street Baptist Church and was an usher there for many years.

She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, summer canning, and sewing.

She served as the president of the Resident Council for Bradford Heights Nursing and Rehab Center.

In addition to her parents, she is proceeded in death by her husband, Buford Pettus; and siblings, Barsenia H. Cherry, Ruth Johnson, Milton Hopper, and Herman Caudle.

Survivors include 4 sons, Perry (Denise) Pettus, Minister Gary Pettus, Pastor Aaron (Victoria) Pettus, Phillip (Lillie) Pettus; 1 daughter, Julie Ann Pettus-Allen; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
