Less than three days remain before officials with Trigg County Schools reconvene for the 2023-24 campaign.
And once again, teachers and administrators convened for the always anticipated Gala of Tables celebration in the district’s cafeteria — a building now surrounded by new construction and renovation of the Cadiz campus.
As educators, bus drivers, aides and faculty scarfed down a Cadiz Restaurant breakfast, contractors were working on the vocational school, greenhouse and co-curricular building — a sign of things to come for current and future Wildcats.
In an open letter to employees of the school, Superintendent Bill Thorpe shared what has been on his mind over the summer.
Above all, he noted his understanding of how difficult the education profession has become, as local, regional, state and national demands — on top of safety concerns — mount with each passing year.
Open House, however, brings renewal and expectation.
Aside from daily demands, Thorpe said the main focus always has to be students — several of which may be looking to school as the best part of their week.
Learning is personal, Thorpe added, and school should help every student discover his or her passions…and build on one’s strengths.
Thorpe also urged school leaders to look more inward for guidance, both personally and within the confines of the district, and pay less attention to potential outside noise.
Struggles are sure to come, and Thorpe said he and the principals are here to listen.
Thorpe said he’s looking forward to hearing stories of learning, and he encouraged teachers to help students learn, smile and belong. Hard and interesting questions should be asked, he added, and leaders should “try new things.”
More than 30 tables were sponsored for the event, and brought in more than 200 school employees and local dignitaries.
