The Christian School District says they will implement several procedures this week to protect students and staff during the Excessive Heat Warning.
According to a statement from the Christian County School District Safety of students, staff, and community is paramount in Christian County Public Schools. Please be assured that we are closely monitoring the excessive heat warning forecasted for our area this week.
Some of the measures include:
Afternoon buses will be loaded as quickly and efficiently as possible. Water will be available for students while on buses and all windows will be down. We plan to minimize students sitting on buses as much as possible.
Outside activities including recess or outdoor classroom instruction will be limited and only allowed before 11:00 AM each day.
Building principals will be monitoring room temperatures and any classroom that is not adequately cooling will be assigned to another place in the building. We are working to keep the temperatures in all classrooms and spaces as consistent as possible and to not place a strain on the HVAC system. Crews are in place to address any HVAC concerns in buildings as a high priority.
All after-school activities including student practices or games will be monitored by district staff and any changes or cancellations to schedules will be communicated to coaches, players, and parents.
The district is prepared to provide additional support to our schools or transportation department to assist in any way while our area deals with the excessive heat.
In the event that early dismissal or closure is necessary, we will notify our parents, students, and staff as early as possible through our telephone/text/email automated notification system, district website, and social media.
The school district urges our families to have their own emergency plan in place to deal with the excessive heat warning. Please follow local forecasts and if necessary seek out cooling shelters that may be open in our area. Parents can also reach out to their FRYSC for assistance if needed.
