Christian County magistrates approved the first reading of the 2024 tax rates during Tuesday morning’s meeting.
County attorney Lincoln Foster presented the tax rates; 18.1 cents per $100 of assessed value for real estate and tangible property, while the motor vehicle and watercraft rates are at 11.6 cents.
Judge Executive Jerry Gilliam credited the county’s growth to the slightly lower tax rates.

The county ag extension district real estate tax rate will be 2.4 cents, the rate for tangible and aircraft will be 3.21 cents, and the motor vehicle and watercraft rate will be 1.2 cents.
The second reading and approval for the tax rates will be held Friday morning, September 1, at 8:30 inside the Christian County Fiscal Court meeting room.
Additional action during the meeting included passing the latest county reapportionment. That project must be completed every ten years following the U.S. Census. The COVID-19 pandemic delayed the reapportionment project for Kentucky counties until this year.
Magistrates also approved service contracts for the Christian County Animal Shelter to continue helping with stray animals in Todd and Trigg counties. The court renews the contract each year since both do not have animal shelters operated by the county.
