The grand champion Broadbent country ham sold for a record $10 million Thursday morning at the Kentucky Farm Bureau Country Ham Breakfast at the Kentucky State Fair.
The ham was purchased by Central Bank and Kelly and Joe Craft. The $10 million donation will go to the charities of the donor’s choice. Auctioneer Seth Hembry had the final call as he announced the new record.
Central Bank President Luther Deaton said their five million donation to charity will go to support education initiatives around the state.
Kristin Branscum, who represented Joe and Kelly Craft, said their donation will go to support various charities in the state including boys and girls clubs. The Craft’s donation will also go to support the work of the Foundation of Appalachian Kentucky. Among their projects is building new homes for Eastern Kentucky flood victims.
Broadbent B & B Foods owners Ronnie and Beth Drennan had tears in their eyes as the final total was announced for the ham, with Ronnie Drennan noting he was shocked.
This year’s record ham auction doubled the $5 million dollar record set last year.
