Herbert Patterson Brandt, 93, of Hopkinsville, KY died at 11:27 a.m. Monday, August 28, 2023, at his residence.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 1, 2023 at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West. Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. at Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home.
A native of Cassia County, Idaho he was born April 12, 1930, the son of the late Jessie Brandt and Helen Patterson Brandt. He attended Hanover College in southern Indiana and was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He joined the United States Navy during the Korean War and proudly served as a Hospital Corpsman attaining the rank of HM2. Upon discharge from the Navy, he attended the Butler University School of Pharmacy and graduated in 1958. He worked for the Eli Lilly Company until he purchased a drug store in Hopkinsville and renamed it Corner Drugs. Herb closed the store in 1988 and began working at CVS Pharmacy. He retired in 2008 after more than 50 years in the medical and pharmacy industry.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Mary Gardner Brandt; stepson Stephen Oakley; grandson: Joseph Brandt; brother: Robert Brandt; and nephew: David Brandt.
Survivors include his sons: Greg (Teresa) Brandt of Orlando, Florida; Jeff (Arda) Brandt of Winchester, Kentucky; and Mark (Tamara) Brandt of Wimauma, Florida; daughter Susan Brandt of Supply, North Carolina; and stepdaughter; Brenda (George) Southwick of Cadiz, Kentucky. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter.
